I have a question for all you experienced garlic growers. Is this a garlic scape? If so, what should i do with it? I hear they're tasty, but I really don't know what to do with it or when to do it. Also, does this become a bloom and need to be removed?
Your input is greatly appreciated!!

I have no idea but that sure is crazy lookin'! This is my first year with garlic so I'll be interested to hear what others have to say.
That is a garlic scape.
I just cut mine the other day, and made a garlic scape pesto with it - used some to make a pesto veggie pizza, the rest I froze while I think about what I want to do with it :)
And yes, you want to cut them about now - if you let them continue to grow they will take away from the size of your bulb.
Interesting... I hope to plant garlic this fall!
Now... where to put it????
jwstell, thanks for the ideas! I hadn't thought of freezing it. I want to use some in a stir-fry but I'm kinda having a salad sort of week or three (trying to eat that yummy lettuce before it bolts).
Toni, I'm sure you can find a corner in one of thoses beds! I planted mine in the fall at the end of the 10' bed where I planted my cool season veggies. Next year, I'll plant the garlic in one of the smaller beds. It didn't need to be covered and when the spring snow caved in my hoops the poor garlic kept getting squashed. It's doing well though.
Jenn, you'll have to let us know if you get scapes too!
